No One like Me

“Remember the former things long past, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like Me.” (Isaiah 46:9)

The world has filled itself with gods. In the ancient times the Greeks had many gods and goddesses as well as all civilizations. The Greeks had fourteen major gods and numerous lesser gods. Today we have gods that we do not even view as gods, yet we worship them. There is the god of power and prestige, wealth and possession, and for many the god of self. These gods are man made of metal, wood or stone and many a searching soul bows before them and serves them with all ability. Some gods are born out of the unknown by are fear. There is the rain gods and gods of summer, winter, fall, and spring. We want these seasons to treat us justly so we worship them that they may find favor with us. We worship them because we fear them and cannot see what they do. We carve images out of out our imaginations and then pray to them. They have become people of circumstance guided by the law of probability. Yet we cannot see from the creation around us and the conscious of our souls the true God, the Creator of all that there is. What is this hunger we have to worship? I question you is it the image that we were created in, God’s image, that causes our desire to know Him? If this be true than why not seek Him while He can be found. “Seek the LORD while He may be found; Call upon Him while He is near.” (Isaiah 55:6)

Consider His majesty of creation and you will be placed in awe. Where you there when the foundations of the earth were laid? Do you know the power of God’s spoken word? Who was it that set the measurements of the earth, who formed the land from the deeps of the sea, and who laid the cornerstone from which it was built? Do you comprehend that power? When the morning stars sang their first hymn of praise to the glorious Creator the heavenly host shouted for joy. Who set the boundaries for the sea and placed the bolt upon its door saying that it could come this far and no more?

Do we know that way to the place of dwelling light from this place where darkness rest? A Million billion snowflakes fall in a year and does one of us have a mind that can create each one uniquely? Who commands the thunderbolt to release the nitrogen in the air to fertilize the earth? Which one of us can send or withhold the rain or place the morning dew upon the leaves of each plant?

Can we place the binding chains on Pleiades or lose he cords of Orion? Could we have set the course of the constellations that they would not vary a degree? Do we navigate the Bear with her satellites across the heavens? Can we even imagine the law that governs the heavens and regulates them to rule the earth?

How is it that can take flesh, blood, and water and cause it to think? Who was it that caused understanding to process in the mind? Do we know how to nourish the birds of the air when their young cry to God for their daily bread? I would say only God knows (Job 38) “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.” (Romans 1:20)

God reveals Himself through His Scripture penned by Prophets and Apostles under the direction and inspiration of His Spirit that we might know what He is and is not like. “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17) God wants us to know Him as His purpose is to have a relationship with us that is righteous and pure. If we had no way to know God, then we could be led astray by every false prophets that came to seek our adoration. There are many in the world under the influence of the evil one that would lead us to believe in the lies of twisted truth. Knowing the truth of God’s Word shields us from the deceitfulness of our adversary, Satan. If we did not have the rock of His word to stand upon, then we would fall into the trap of the god of this world. “There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.” (Ephesians 4:4-6)

God is a jealous God. God is not jealous of the adversary but in His love for us and for our protection we are to have no other gods before Him. “You shall have no other gods before Me. “You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth.” (Exodus 20:3-4) When we live in the light of God’s truth we can clearly see in the darkness of this world the snares and pitfalls that have been placed in our path. We should not walk in a world that is in opposition to our Lord without the light of His word to enlighten our path. “Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105)

God is our provider, He is a rewarder, His light is a treasure that equips us to walk through the valley of the shadow of death and not fear evil. His light is one of the good and perfect gifts that He has given us by His grace. When we see His light and walk in it we will not stumble and fall. Truly this is a great blessing that God has given to His people. “Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.” (James 1:17)

God’s Son Jesus is the Word of God. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” (John 1:1-5) To know God is to learn Jesus. He came into the world as a light. Jesus is the Word of God that brings light into the hearts of men that they may find life. “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” (John 8:12) When we know Jesus we can abide with the Father, God, though Him.

Unlike all of creation we were created by the “finger of God.” In Genesis 1 we read of the creation and all was spoken into existence by the Word of God. God spoke and therefore it existed. Then God on the sixth day formed man from the dust of the earth and breathed His Spirit into him and we became a living being. We were created in His image and this is what separates us from all other of His creation and made are with the ability to create, reason, with a free will and a desire to worship. “Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” (Genesis 1:26-27)

God is not a created being, He is eternal. He has no beginning and He has no end, He always was and always is. “Before the mountains were born Or You gave birth to the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.” (Psalm 90:2) As we are in His image we are eternal. God knew us before the foundations of the earth. “Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love.” (Ephesians 1:4) The question for man is to where he will spend eternity. Man is only here in the world for a short span of time and then eternity. Are we to follow Jesus to the Kingdom of Heaven to be with our Heavenly Father or to go down to the pit? Only through His Son Jesus can we have the righteousness that allows us into heaven. “Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” (Matthew 5:48) We are creatures of finite minds and cannot know the thoughts of our God. We cannot understand the fullness of His being and the completeness of His wisdom. Our reverent fear of Him is the foundation for all knowledge. When we reach our home in His Kingdom we will have eternity to learn more and more. “Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways! For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who became His counselor?” (Romans 11:33-34)

God is just and shows no special favor to any. All will face their judgment according to their deeds in the flesh. “The Rock! His work is perfect, For all His ways are just; A God of faithfulness and without injustice, Righteous and upright is He.” (Deuteronomy 32:4) God is all –powerful and can accomplish as He pleases. All is according to His plan and purpose. “Ah Lord GOD! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! Nothing is too difficult for You,” (Jeremiah 32:17) God is present throughout His creation. He is before the beginning and walks along the borders of eternity. There is nowhere in the universe that God cannot be found. There is nothing that God does not see. “Am I a God who is near,” declares the LORD, “And not a God far off?” (Jeremiah 23:23)

God is holy, He is the Creator and far above His creation. We are His creatures and have fallen into sin by our disobedience to His word. God is holy, He is righteous and cannot be in the presence of wickedness. God is separate from moral defilement and is hostile towards it. At the end of day He will destroy all unrighteous wickedness and judge His creation with fire. Those who stand in the righteousness of His Son Jesus will receive the inheritance of His Kingdom. There it will be through all eternity. “Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; for our God is a consuming fire.” (Hebrews 12:28-29)

We serve Him because He first served us and paid the debt that we cannot pay, the wage of our sin. God who showed His mercy upon us and sent His Son that we may receive His grace by our faith in His Word in trust of His wonderful promises. It is for a short time that we suffer here in this fallen world for His sake. It is for eternity that we will be in the peace and joy of the loving arms of our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ in the presence of our God who will dwell with us forever. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” (1 Peter 1:3-5)
