Live in the Word of Truth

“Because of the hope laid up for you in heaven, of which you previously heard in the word of truth, the gospel.” (Colossians 1:5)

If we live in the truth of God’s Word, then as we travel through the wilderness of this world our hearts should remain filled with joy in the countenance of the Lord’s blessing upon us. “Cry aloud and shout for joy, O inhabitant of Zion, For great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.” (Isaiah 12:6) Our joy is also founded in the hope that we have through the work of our Savior that through Him we have life abundant and eternal.

We live in a diminishing world where all things are passing away before our eyes. We see the womb of blossoming life violated, we see the loss of the sanctity of life respected, we are experiencing dwindling resources and the rising cost to obtain them, and we see aimless people living without moral ethic to stand upon and guide them through. It is a world that seems hopeless and yet, the Christian is filled with hope because he knows in his heart that he has obtained the better part that is imperishable in the custody of the Lord Almighty. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” (1 Peter 1:3-5)

I know of no words more true in a world that thrives upon deceit than that of God’s Son Jesus the Christ who upon comforting His disciples with these parting words before the night of His sacrifice for mankind. That He would be returning to the right hand of the Father where He would become our High Priest, our continuing Prophet and return as the Lion of Judah the King of kings and Lord of lords. He spoke not only of the trials and tribulations that lay ahead but also that He is going to prepare a place for each of us. Not a barracks or condominium but a home prepared with the individual child of God in mind. When His work is complete their in the future glory Jesus will return to take His own to that place beyond the imagination of His brothers and sisters in faith. “Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. “In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. “If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.” (John 14:1-3)

We are not here just waiting upon the Lord, there is work to be done in preparing ourselves for eternal living and sharing the good news to all who will hear of the home that awaits them as well. This mission that we have been given by our Lord pits us on the battlefield for the souls of men. (Matthew 28:19-20) It is not a battle against men but a battle for the souls of men and therefore is a spiritual battle. There is a struggle in the heavenly realm and man is the object of that struggle. This struggle began even before man’s fall in the Garden of Eden and will continue to the Day of the Lord. Satan desires to take away from God that he desires the most, man’s fellowship with Him. There is only evil in Satan and he comes against man to steal kill and destroy and rob God of His crown of creation. (John 10:10)Though death was defeated upon the cross of Calvary men need to know the “way” to find their salvation. They need to know the sacrifice that has been made that they can escape the wage of their sin. It is not a battle against men, it is a battle against sin which is born in the nature of man’s heart. The Christian is a witness to this truth and He is to pray for the sinner and share that truth that will set them free. “And you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” (John 8:32)

As a result of our commission from the Lord Jesus Christ we are pitted against the wicked forces in the heavenly realm and must at all times watch and pray that we do not fall victim to the wiles of the adversary. (Matthew 26:41) Satan himself will use all his deceptive measures to blur the goodness of God into the evilness of himself. “No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.” (2 Corinthians 11:14) We are but men on a spiritual battlefield and being armed with the weapons of man is insufficient. Our battle is not physical it is spiritual and therefore we must have spiritual weapons, we must have the power of God’s Word written upon our hearts, and we must have the power of God sitting upon the throne of our life, the Holy Spirit residing within. The Apostle Paul tells us in his letter to the Ephesians that before entering into this battle we are to have the full armor of God. No soldier of any army would attempt battle without the full equipment. “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.” (Ephesians 6:12)

Our message to those who are caught in the torrents of today’s society, those who find no peace of soul, those who are lost in the evil that is all about them, those who are on the slippery slope of the worldly way, and those who have lost faith in the leadership of men, Jesus says this, “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28) He will give rest to the burden that they carry and will provide purpose in the confusion of humanity. He will give rest when our service here in the wilderness is complete and we reach the Promised Land.

That day will come when the One who is just will justify all that we have suffered through for the sake of His name. We no longer will see the knotted threads, the high mountains and low valleys from beneath the tapestry of our life but from the top where the warp and woof forms the beauty of the Master’s touch. Then shall we hear the multitudes of heavenly voices shout, “Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God; because His judgments are true and righteous; for He has judged the great harlot who was corrupting the earth with her immorality, and He has avenged the blood of His bond-servants on her.” (Revelation 19:1-2)

This is not a dream, not a wish that someday may find truth, these are the promises of God the Creator given to His children that they may be with Him forever. The Christian is not going to have eternal life, we have eternal life and we are living that eternal life now. Our eternal life began before the foundations of the world and will continue on long after the world has passed. We are here on our way there and until we meet that full presence we must work the good work that we have been given. The Christian must ever be on guard as the adversary never rest. “Keep watching and praying that you may not come into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Mark 14:38)

The Christian is Jesus’ witness to the work that He has completed on their behalf. The Christian is a witness to all mankind of the work that Jesus has completed on their behalf. The Christian is the keeper of the Word of His hope for salvation and peace that we must share the love that God has placed in us towards our fellowmen. How sad it would be for us to see a family member, a friend, or our neighbor lost in a hopeless eternity without the love of God. We have the Spirit of Truth living within us, we are lights that shine in the darkness of this world that men might see, and we have the power of God’s Word going forth from our lips that His will shall be done. “So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:11)

The Christian must labor hard in the fields to bring in the harvest for His Kingdom. We should live that no one would be left behind when the Church is called out. This alone is reward enough that we might lead one to the Christ that they would find their salvation though the knowledge of Jesus Christ. Who among us would allow one soul to be damned? There are many was to find Jesus Christ and we should share each and every one of them. The truth of Jesus is He is the only way to God. “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” (John 14:6)

Jesus is soon coming for His own and all will be held accountable for their deeds in the flesh. God the Father prepares the hearts to receive the truth of His gospel but if the Christian does not speak it, he will be accountable for that. He is coming quickly and there is no retirement here for the servant of Christ. “Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done.” (Revelation 22:12)

We know that there is no one syllable of truth in Satan as he is the father of lies. We know it by looking at the world around us that he is the god of. For this we suffer as our Lord and for the sake of His truth who knows the path before us as He said, “Therefore you too have grief now; but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.” (John 16:22)
