The United States in Flux

“Thus says the LORD, “Stand by the ways and see and ask for the ancient paths, Where the good way is, and walk in it; And you will find rest for your souls.” (Jeremiah 6:16)

All the troubles of mankind come from the root of effect from his fall in the Garden of Eden. As a result of man’s disobedience to God’s Word sin entered into the nature of man. His blood was tainted, his nature evolved into a love affair with the world and an association with the ruler of this world. It is he the serpent of old who fell to his own pride that thought he could be as the Most High God. He came to the Garden and tempted man with the same error that he had fell to and deceived man to believe that he also could be as God the Most High. Since then the world has been under the curse born of the disobedience to the Word of the Almighty and trials and tribulations have endured to this day pleasing the ruler of this world who has blinded the eye of man to the truth of God’s Word. “And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” (2 Corinthians 4:3-4) By the grace of God the foe of all creation was judged at the moment on Calvary’s hill where Jesus, the Son of God and the Savior of mankind sacrificed Himself out of His love for the souls of men. “Now judgment is upon this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out.” (John 12:31)

Still throughout the ages of time man has searched to live apart from the truth of His Creator and has been engulfed in the three legged tentacles of the sin he so much loves. That unsatisfying reach for the “lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye and the pride of life.” (1 John 2:16) In the selfishness of man’s heart he has become a god unto himself so much so that he walks with a selfie stick before him that he may admire his own image. A love affair with self leaves one nowhere to go outside of themselves. A selfish man is as shallow as the evaporating rain on the hot pavement. Others have sought solace in the self-made gods of this world. They consummate themselves in gods of power such as wealth and fame, or the passion gods of sex and possession, and there are the gods of quick release such as alcohol, tobacco and anarchy, and the desire for the Wiccan way.

Within their own minds they see a right way to go which never reaches far enough, never satisfies completely, and leaves them in constant want of more of the same failed practice. Yet they rationalize each step of their journey through life to give a sense of justice to their life and believe the course they follow leads to personal achievement. Sadly, their destination is the same as all the rest of the rebellious, destruction. “There is a way which seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.” (Proverbs 16:25)

There are the nobles of our land that have dedicated themselves to solving the ill of man’s behavior. They fail to recognize the root cause of man’s lack of peace and attempt to rationalize an excuse for his misbehavior. There are many books in the library that prescribe the fix for man’s broken attitude towards the meaning of life. They gallantly go forward receiving the false reward of their flawed philosophy, which in their mind would change society without changing the heart of man. Who knows the heart of a man? Certainly not himself. “The heart is more deceitful than all else And is desperately sick; Who can understand it?” (Jeremiah 17:9)

Here in the United States we are again approaching a time for a change. The populace is understandably dissatisfied with the current direction of the country. We have approaching the podium an array of prospective candidates for the position of the Presidency of our nation. Each one of them propose to make a change from the path that we have been on the past six years. I agree, it has been a path that has weakened our nation on all fronts. But the wrong direction we have as a nation have been pursuing is a path that we have been on for decades, not just the past six years. The problems of the United States is deeper and broader than the mere effects of the past six years and the tribulations of a failed presidency. They, as every presidential candidate in my life time, seek to turn us back from the present path and move us forward on a new path. I am not normally a pessimist but I have seen this many times that we rise up in enthusiasm only to fall further downward. This is not change, this is a continuing progression of our downward spiral.

The United States of America was founded on the moral and ethical principles of the Word of God. The Founding Fathers formed a democracy based upon those principles. Their fathers came to the new world seeking the religious freedom to worship God and give Him the praise and honor for this great land that He led them to. The idea of a democracy will not stand without the foundation of a moral code that is tried and true. “We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion . . . Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” (John Adams) We won our independence, established our government of the people, and invited the world to come and join with us.

The invitation to the world was inscribed upon the Statue of Liberty from the words of Emma Lazarus. “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!” They came by the hundreds of thousands to fill the home of the brave and the land of the free. They came with their talent and work ethnic to build upon the Great American Experiment. They sacrificed and worked hard and together we built the greatest nation the world has known. They came to join us in our vision, that to worship our God freely, boldly and unashamed. Now as time has passed along they come not to join us but to change us from that which made us the great nation we were. I am not saying they are no longer welcome. I am saying because we left the old path we as citizens of the United States no longer know who we are, we no longer know from where we have come, and we no longer know where we are going. The United States is in flux.

I have not heard thus far one who is brave enough to stand up to the truth, confess the real reason that this nation is in flux, and provide the leadership to the people of this nation to return to the old paths that made this nation the great nation is has been in the past. They continue to rationalize softly the problems, they continue to seek the answers without stating the true fact of the cause of our trials, and they refuse to state the moral ground from which I know some of them stand. Bluntly, none of them have spoken to the root cause of the United States fall from the grace of God that once was shed upon us. The United States has for throughout my life time systematically taken the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel out of our society. Today we have a generation that has no moral ground to stand upon as the sands of pop culture shift in the winds of time. We removed the rock of truth from our children and left them to flow downward with our failing society. They have no sure rung on the Ladder of Jacob to grab ahold of to stop their free fall into the pit of coming judgment. “For avoiding the extremes of despotism or anarchy . . . the only ground of hope must be on the morals of the people. I believe that religion is the only solid base of morals and that morals are the only possible support of free governments. Therefore education should teach the precepts of religion and the duties of man towards God.” (Governor Morris)

There is a tremendous spiritual hunger on our society today. This hunger reaches far beyond our borders into the deepest depths of the world we share. If the United States is to once again be the world leader that God called it to be, then we must train up our children in the biblical truths of God’s Word so another generation will not be lost. “Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6) So goes the youth, so goes the future of the nation. As Adolph Hitler once said, “Capture the youth and you have captured the future.” It is our history that leads us into the future. We need to create a good history for our children today that their tomorrow will have a solid rock foundation to stand upon and lead this nation to become the great nation it once was. Our Children need to learn the old paths that they can become the people that God intended them to be.

We need a leader that will address the root of all our problems. Not the symptoms but the cause. The change they speak of should not be change for the sake of giving false hope in their campaign for the presidency but a change in that we should repent. Repent form the error of the past way and turn to the narrow way that leads to the ultimate kingdom the world is racing to reach, the Kingdom of God on earth. 78% of the adult population in the United States proclaim to be of the Christian Faith. That is 78% of the adult population that needs to receive and act upon this promise from God. “My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14) The land of our nation needs to be healed. The land of our children needs to be healed. But first the land of our spirit needs to be healed and God is faithful and true and wanting to heal our land.

I would be foolish to say that we do not need new ideas as in a moving society we need new inspirations, positive perceptions, and an evolving plan to move forward. I am not saying that we should back down but to rebuild the foundation that we have allowed to crumble. It is not the government’s fault that we as a nation have been led astray. As we are a government of the people, by the people, for the people. Therefore, if the government has taken our religions freedoms away it is because we the people have allowed them to do it. If over 318,000 abortions this year in the United States is repulsive to you, and it is to the 47% of the people of the United States it is because we the people have allowed this to happen. If people want to have relations with their on sex then that is fine, God has given them over to their on lust. “And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper.” (Romans 1:28) That has been their choice to make. But if we the people are forced to accept offensive behavior as normal then it is our own fault not the governments. The problem is not voter apathy, big money controlling politics, not rationalizing an excuse for that we oppose, but not taking a stand against the root of the problem. Man’s rebellion against God’s Word.

In this season of flux in the United States we must return to the old path of prayer, studying God’s Word, and following Jesus in faith on His Word then God would place His countenance upon us and our broken fellowship with our Creator would be restored. Then we would face the root cause of our troubles and in the power of His Spirit overcome the temptations of this world. Our eye would be fixed upon Jesus and our hearts set upon the Kingdom that we are citizens of and soon to reside. The Lord has a plan and purpose for each of us and in His will for our lives we shall live abundantly. “For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11) As the last great President of the United States said, “Within the covers of the Bible are the answers for all the problems men face.” (Ronald Reagan) Let us not return to yesterday and relive the problems of today, no, let us return to the “ancient paths, Where the good way is, and walk in it; And you will find rest for your souls.”
