Where Will You Spend Eternity?

We all have Belief. Each day we have believe the sun shall rise, the ground beneath us shall sustain us, the air shall feed us the oxygen we need, the rains shall come and bring life, our hearts shall continue to beat. None of these things have to happen. None of these things have a guarantee that they will. Yet they do and we have a belief that they will. We give little thought to that but yet it is by our belief we walk each day. The Bible defines faith in Hebrews as this. “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1) We see all this things in which we believe, but do we have faith in the One who gives them to us?

Therefore the sun rises, the earth is beneath us, the oxygen in the air or the rains are not a surety. They do not have to happen but so far they have. But these things, as with much we know and experience are things of this world and shall pass away in time. “The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.” (1 John 2:17) So then what is truth? What is real that we can have solid belief in? I find nothing physical to be truth. It is true this building stands but what is it when it crumbles and falls? I find nothing mental to be truth. Are the words of men true? No for the words of men are spoken and then fade with the wind. The words of men have only finite wisdom and cannot see the future to come. So I say then as we live in a passing, ever changing world that there is no truth to be found here. I find truth to be spiritual. The base of truth for me is that we have a spirit. Can you deny that? Can you say that you are as the animals and some day you shall die and be no more? Do you not honestly believe and know that there is an eternal spark, a being that lives with-in and shall never die? I do and I think we all in honesty do know that we are spiritual beings on a human journey. Most of us are in denial but deep inside we know this is truth. That we are born, live and shall pass on to a place other than here. If not, then why is so much of the world involved in spiritual belief, religion, if they do not believe they are eternal?

Some men say as truth that in the space of a dead universe, a distance beyond our comprehension, that elements came together and formed life. I laugh at that asking what are the chances of dead matter forming life? Our minds cannot accept that what is, always was, and shall always be. I say it is truth that what is, was not always, and shall not always be. For in the beginning there was God. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1) God the creator whose word is powerful enough to create all that is seen and that which is yet to be seen. This then is the beginning that in His Love, “The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” (1 John 4:8) God created man in his own image. God is a spirit and we are spirits in the image of God. Therefore we are on a spiritual journey from an eternal God in to an eternity beyond here. This is truth then that God is the Father of man and desires His children to be obedient to His plan and purpose. It is God the Father whose purpose is to have a loving fellowship with man.

This then sets the challenge of man that the ruler of this world, Satan, has let loose powerful forces of evil in his effort to destroy the crown of God’s creation, Man. It is truth that we are caught in a great spiritual battle being fought for the spirits of men. One force is Love and the other is hate. To which we endorse shall determine the answer to the question, “Where will you spend Eternity?” “He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” (John 3:36)

It is truth that disobedience to God is sin. That is all sin is, disobeying God’s word. The simple truth is God will not allow disobedient children in His house. The problem then becomes this. As we are disobedient towards our earthly father so we too are disobedient towards our heavenly Father. We are all condemned to spend eternity in separation from our heavenly Father God. “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23) This is a hopeless picture in that all our efforts here either for the good or evil shall mean nothing in the end as we all have sinned and fall short of God’s blessing. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” (Romans 3:23) Then what is the answer to the question, “Where will you spend Eternity?” As we are apart from God. Separated from our Father and living with the ruler of this world in the punishment in the influence of his hate. Consider the works of hate here on earth. Imagine and eternity of that pain and horror upon yourself. The Bible says those who deny God shall spend eternity in a lake of fire. We know the pain of physical fire. Imagine the horror of spiritual fire for eternity. Is this a scare tactic or just plain justice for an evil world?

“Where will you spend Eternity?” Let us consider the options. Let of see the other side of the coin. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

God is Love. “Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” (1 Corinthians 13:4-7)

The wages of sin, disobedience to God the Father, is separation for God, spiritual death, the grave and Hell. This is truth. Unchangeable, fixed in God’s truth for eternity. We all have sinned, we all fall short, and we all are hopeless except through God’s Love. God’s has provided a path of escape, a way to save His children from separation from Him. God knew we could not meet the measure and sent His son Jesus to provide the example of Godly living and to pay the price for our sin. Through His death our sins are atoned. Upon the cross of Calvary Jesus became the perfect Lamb of sacrifice for all the sins of man. Not just mine nor just yours but for all the sins of man. Every evil work that has been done, every evil work yet to come has been paid for by the death of Jesus. He died not only for the righteous but also for the sinner. “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13) Would I give up my life for you? Would you give up your life for me? Jesus did and did so only because He loves you, He loves me. His sacrifice for you and me is a free gift. Salvation from separation from God is ours to have at no cost. Why? Because God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten son to die upon the cross that we may be with Him in God’s house. (Heaven)

This is Grace, unconditional Love. The unconditional love of God through Jesus the Christ is grace. We now are in the age of Grace in that our salvation is a free gift from God. All we must do to spend eternity with God the Father is to accept His free Gift. The saving sacrifice of is His Son for the payment of our disobedience. Recognize that which Jesus has done for us, you and me, that we may have life eternally through Him.

“He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” (John 3:18) “Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.” (John 8:24) “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25-26) “He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day.” (John 12:48) “But these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.” (John 20:31)

What must we do to receive eternal life with God the Father? How can one be free from the hate of this world and the death to come? What is the cost? What is the reward?

It is truth that the cost is death and the reward is life. It is by faith that I accept Jesus as the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Him. (John 14:6) It is by His Grace that I receive this gift by professing Him as my Lord and Savior. That I confess my sinful self and turn from it and live a righteous life through Jesus that I may spend eternity in God’s house. “In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. “If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.” (John 14:2-3)

What then is your answer to the question? Where will you spend Eternity? I pray that you will accept the answer that GOD so loved the World that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life
